Words from Mother Gavrillia (+1992)

We should ask God every day to break our will and make it His, so that we may become as HE wants us to be.

When we think of God all the time, then God also thinks of us all the time.

How easy it is to go on a diet for the sake of one's figure! And how difficult it is to fast on Wednesdays and Fridays because our Church ordains it . . .

We cannot stand with one foot here and the other there. God wants us whole. So, when we say that we belong to God and that we love Him, how dare we not be completely His and His alone?

What would you do if the Lord were present and visible? Would you do this or that, if He were here, by your side? ... This thought protects you from sin.

The Jesus Prayer and Interior, Silent Prayer of the Heart

THE JESUS PRAYER: "Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have merc on me, a Sinner."

"The heart is a small vessel, but all things are contained in it; God is there, the angels are there; and there also is life and the Kingdom, the heavenly cities and the treasures of grace."
Saint Makarios of Egypt

"The principal thing (in reciting the Jesus Prayer) is to walk before God, or under God's eye, aware that God is looking at you, searching your soul and your heart, seing all that is there. This awareness is the most powerful lever in the mechanism of the inner spiritual life."
Saint Theophan the Recluse

"We need to enclose ourselves in teh inner closet of the heart more often than we need go to church; and collecting all our thoughts there, we must place our minds before God, praing to Him in secret with all warmth of spirit and with living faith. At the same time we must also learn to turn our thoughts to God in such a manner as to be able to grow into perfect human beings."
Saint Dimitri of Rostov

"The essence of the whole thing, is to be established in the remembrance (awareness) of God, and to walk in His presence. "
Saint Theophan the Recluse
